But as I’ve grown older, I see the wisdom in his claim. Finding yourself in new places, experiencing new things is the universal story—the only one worth telling. And I’m excited we get to do it every day.

Early on in my career I worked for an airline. At the end of the day on Fridays my co-workers and I grabbed our bags and headed for the airport with no plan, just the excitement of where an open flight would take us. I've never tired of finding that next new adventure.

My first foray into solo business travel at the age of 23 was a trip to Nairobi, Kenya. “You’ll be fine” said my co-workers who traversed the globe regularly. I was apprehensive, but I was fine. Mainly because the hotel manager made sure to sit with me for a few minutes every morning at breakfast to make me feel at home. The welcome and care I experienced transformed the way I think about hospitality and emphasized that getting it right can be unforgettable.
